Skye's Song
About the Author
I have always loved words - the way they sound and the power they have - which is one of the reasons I have been an English teacher for eighteen years - both in mainstream and special needs schools. As well as teaching English, I have had Pastoral roles, which has meant that I have supported children with not only their academic success but their personal wellbeing.
Skye's Song is my first published children's book and was inspired by my two amazing daughters - both who have had speech and language therapy. My eldest daughter has a stammer and when she was younger, she would pose some of the questions that Skye does in this story.At the time, I found it difficult to find a book that was reassuring and encouraging around the subject of having a stammer, so began to write my own and this resulted in Skye's Song.
My hope is that the story will encourage all children that may feel a bit different - or that may struggle with their sense of self- that they are wonderful just as they are and that their individuality in fact brings such beauty to the world.
